Game of Thrones: Who keeps the most powerful claim to the Iron Throne?
Let’s face it; with season 6 ending, the finale was amazingly dark and disturbingly beautiful. Even though this season was one of the best seasons we have ever watched in TV history, it left us with some important, burning questions. Who keeps the most powerful claim to the Iron Throne? Is it Cersei or Daenerys and let’s not forget about Jon Snow as he’s recently claimed to be the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.
Cersei Lannister, the widow of King Robert Baratheon, usurped the crown after her only child; the late King Tommen Baratheon committed suicide. That scene itself took an unexpected turn of events!
By now, we all know she doesn’t have any legitimate claim to the throne. All of her children are dead and more importantly; she blew up half of the city. Some argued that she might be mad, just like the last Targaryen King. Some said that she just wanted power. Either way, she’s a queen now, and we’ll have to wait for the next season to see how long she can claim the Iron Throne.
She’s known to be the mother of dragons and the last living Targaryen, or that’s what she thought. From the Targaryen point of view, her claim to the Iron Throne is stronger than Jon Snow and Cersei Lannister. She’s strong, wise and truly beautiful. By the end of season 6, she truly discovered of what it takes to be a ruler and a queen and that journey itself made us love her even more. But is she strong enough to claim the throne? After all, she’s sailing off to Westeros to claim back her throne back from Cersei Lannister.
Cersei may have buckets of wildfire, but Daenerys has an army of Dothraki and managed to convince the Dothrakis to fight along her side. The Dorne agreed to fight with her, against the Lannisters (let’s see how that works out!) and most importantly, she has her beautiful dragons as weapons.
And then, of course, she has Tyrion Lannister, who she just recently appointed as Hand of the Queen and Varys as one of her advisors. Both men are cunning, amazingly, and fiercely loyal to Daenerys.
Just like Daenerys, he might have a chance to claim the Iron Throne. Now that the series has confirmed his lineage, will the rest of the characters find out in time? And even if they do find out, will they let him claim the Iron Throne? Afterall, he’s still an illegitimate bastard and bastards usually, don’t claim the throne. He may be wise and a fair leader, but there are so many reasons he may be unwanted as the next Iron Throne King. Moreover, he’s more focus in getting rid of White Walkers for now.
Let us know what you think. Nonetheless, we’ll have to wait for the next season to find out more.
